Yesterday morning I went to a recommended church that I could get my ashes and go.... perfect since I had a busy day of work ahead. Well I walk in at 9am and the chapel that could probably seat over 300 had 300 spots filled. Little did I know I was in for the whole 9 yards, I got my ashes along with communion. Now once I realized this was turning into mass I had another surprise waiting.... The blessing of the gifts through serving communion was spoken in english and then redone in spanish. This made no sense and not because I haven't been trying to learn spanish through the cheap version of Rosetta Stone (Berlitz), but why they would start translating the mass now after 3/4 of the it was already complete and only done in 1 language?/? To say the least I was a little frustrated since I wasn't planning on taking an hour to get ashed, but I did feel good. Not sure if half of it was because I sat through the whole mass or that this now can count for not having to go this sunday.
Later on that afternoon I had a funny encounter. I was walking around the hospital getting ready for some work when someone stopped me and asked what the black dot on my forehead was doing there.
Man - Sir, what is that black thing on your head?
TO - Oh, there just ashes.
Man - Ashes? It looks like a black dot.
TO - Yea kind of, but I got them for ash wednesday.
Man - Ash Wednesday? You are Hindu. That does look like Hindu.
After this comment I tried to explain very quick that it was not Hindu and that it represented a different belief, but unfortunately the guy must had already made up his mind and started walking away as he mumbled something to me that I couldn't understand. By any means his comment shocked me as I looked at him waiting for some type of Seth Green punch line that wasn't coming. This guy was dead serious. Now I did notice when I checked in the mirror that my ashes weren't in the form of the typical cross symbol, but like a large glob, possibly the Father was hinting that I may have quite a bit of repenting to do. All I know is that I am not Hindu and far from it since one religion believes in not eating cow, while the other does and thats just one major difference. Hope everyone had a Happy Hinduday.
